Unique to Prato Textile Museum, the Contemporary Room is dedicated to contemporary textiles produced in Prato and the rest of the world.

Thanks to its collaboration with the Pratotrade consortium – an organization which brings together over 150 local companies whose businesses focus on the development of textiles for the fashion industry – the Contemporary Room is a point of reference for those wishing to explore the very latest developments in the textile sector. Indeed, the items exhibited in the Contemporary Room are a shown prior to their distribution to trade outlets and include the most innovative textiles produced by local companies as well as a selection of the most recent fashion trends presented at the Prato-Expo trade fair.

The contents of the spectacularly decorated Contemporary Room change in line with the seasons and include many textiles of particularly striking technical or stylistic features. Furthermore, a special area of the collection focuses on finishing processes, the final stages of the manufacturing cycle in which many local companies specialize from both a creative and economic point of view.

From the 19th September 2009 to the 10 January 2010, the Contemporary Room hosts the exhibition "The Style of the Tsar".
