Historic Room

Located in the oldest part of the former Campolmi textile mill, the Historic Room is dedicated to the display of items from Prato Textile Museum’s remarkable collection of antique textiles. Pursuant to the Museum’s exhibition criterion, the contents of the room are varied on a regular basis in such a way as to ensure correct conservation of the collections, whilst nevertheless offering the public a complete overview of the wide variety of items owned by the Museum (archeological textiles, 15th - 19th-century Italian and European silks, embroideries, 20th-century auteur textiles, ethnic textiles, clothes, sacred raiment, etc.).

The innovative cases in which the exhibits are displayed were designed by Laboratorio Museotecnico Goppion of Milan and fully respect the restrictive conservation standards adopted by the museum vis-à-vis the preservation of antique textiles.

The Historic Room exhibition also includes a video presentation illustrating the historical-cultural contexts of reference of the textiles included in the exhibition.

From the 19th September 2009 to the 10th January 2010, the historic room hosts the exhibition “The style of the Tsar”.
