Partners of Prato Textile Museum

Prato Textile Museum has extremely close ties with its area of reference and is very much part of the local social and institutional scenario.

Institutional partnership

Prato Textile Museum is managed by a group of local institutions which includes public and private sector organizations. Indeed the Founding Members of Prato Textile Museum Foundation include both local government organizations (the Municipality of Prato and the Province of Prato) and representatives of local businesses (Prato Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Craft and Agriculture and Prato Industrial Union).

The Museum also enjoys the support of a number of “Meritorious Members” of the Prato Textile Museum Foundation, a group of institutions which have made a considerable contribution to the activities of both Prato Textile Museum and Prato Textile Museum Foundation:

  • Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Prato and Cariprato banks: supporters of Prato Textile Museum’s institutional and exhibition activities;
  • Professional Association of Former Pupils of T. Buzzi Technical Institute: the leading contributor to Prato Textile Museum’s collections since the founding of the Museum at T. Buzzi Technical Institute in 1975;
  • T. Buzzi Technical Institute: the founder of Prato Textile Museum, the institute in which the collections were initially located and a major contributor to Prato Textile Museum’s educational, vocational, training and information dissemination activities;
  • Pratotrade Consortium: a group of over 150 leading local textile companies which ensures that samples from each edition of Prato Expo are contributed to Prato Textile Museum’s Contemporary Section; 
  • Association of Friends of Prato Textile Museum: an association whose statutory aim is to enhance the collections of Prato Textile Museum through acquisitions and donations as well as to contribute to the Museum’s scientific, publishing and educational activities.

Other partners

Prato Textile Museum also has a very close  relationship with Prato Association of Friends of Museums and Environmental Heritage.
Indeed, in addition to supporting Prato Textile Museum’s work in the field of antique textile restoration, Prato Association of Friends of Museums and Environmental Heritage has also donated a fully equipped restoration workshop for the conservation and restoration of antique textiles. The workshop is dedicated to the memory of Giovanna Rucellai Piquè.
The Association’s Voluntary Section also ensures free Sunday opening of the Museum, a service which is highly appreciated by citizens from both near and far.

Prato Textile Museum avails itself of the scientific advice and support of the Textile Department of Opificio delle Pietre Dure di Firenze, as far as the conservation, restoration and management of its collections are concerned. The Museum and the Opificio have also collaborated on a number of vocational training schemes.

Prato Textile Museum is also a member of the following institutions:

  • ICOM, International Council of Museums, Italy;
  • CIETA, Centre International des Etudes du Textile Ancien, Lyons, France;
  • ETN, European Textile Network, Hannover, Germany.

Prato Textile Museum is twinned with the Moda Museum of Middlesex University, London, with whom it organizes regular exchanges of exhibits and personnel (for training purposes).
