Consultation of the Museum collections
The Museum collections include many items which, although they are not regularly exhibited to the public, are nevertheless available for consultation by textile and fashion students, scholars, school staff, professional figures and companies:
- Textile collection: collection of antique and contemporary textiles not regularly displayed to the public;
- Book collection: two collections of books, one focusing on specific aspects of the textile and fashion industries and the other focusing on the history of textile production in the local area;
- Fashion plates collection: collection of sketches and fashion plates of great interest to scholars and professional figures wishing to further their knowledge of this sector;
- Photo collection: collection of colour photographs and digital images documenting the Museum’s entire textile, machinery and clothing collections.
Means of consultation
Consultation of the collections is only permitted via appointment and on the presentation of written request from the organization to which the person wishing to consult the collections belongs (university, company, etc.). Such requests should be addressed to the Director of Prato Textile Museum.
No loans – in whatever form – will be permitted and, with the exception of special cases, the collections must be consulted on the Museum’s premises.
The consultation of some items may be subject to restrictions.
No fee is charged for consultations arranged for academic purposes. Consultations arranged for business purposes will be assessed by the management of Prato Textile Museum, which reserves the right to deny access or grant restricted access pursuant to certain conditions. A fee will be charged for consultations arranged for commercial purposes.
Reproduction of the material
Any reproduction of the collections (photo, paper or digital copies, etc.) must be explicitly authorized by the management of Prato Textile Musem and must be made on the Museum premises or via a Museum-approved service supplier.
Reproduction of the photograph collection and relative costs are regulated by Prato Textile Museum Regulations and Charges.
