Conservation and Restoration
The Museum houses a laboratory for the conservation and restoration of textiles.
The laboratory, which was fitted out with the help of the Prato Friends of Museums and Environmental Heritage Association, in memory of Giovanna Rucellai Piqué, operates both in the management and maintenance of the Museum’s collections, as well as in the restoration of fabrics and garments commissioned by other entities or private parties.
The technical equipment in the laboratory allows for the implementation of interventions according to the most modern methods: cleaning, support operations in deteriorated areas and needlepoint consolidation, analysis and recognition of fibres, conservative and integrative restoration of tapestries and carpets, conservation of textile, garment and accessory samples.
The laboratory operates with the scientific collaboration of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence.
The management of the laboratory is made up of professional restorers who graduated from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence and collaborations with prestigious Italian and European restoration laboratories.
