Conservation and Restoration
Prato Textile Museum facilities include a fully-equipped textile conservation and restoration workshop. Furnished by Prato Association of Friends of Museums and Cultural Heritage in memory of Mrs. Giovanna Rucellai Piquè, the workshop is used both to manage and maintain the Museum’s collections and to restore textiles and clothes on behalf of other authorities and private collectors.
The workshop is managed by Consorzio Tela di Penelope, a consortium composed of highly qualified professional restorers from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence, all of whom trained in leading Italian and European restoration workshops.
The state-of-the-art technical equipment with which the workshop is furnished enables a full range of conservation and restoration activities: cleaning, backing; darning, analysis and recognition of fibres; conservation and restoration of tapestries and rugs; conservation of textile samples, clothing and accessories.
The workshop operates with the scientific support of Opificio delle Pietre Dure of Florence.
