Thanks to an organised archive of samples, the Museo del Tessuto’s Textile Library examines innovation within the contemporary textile sector, from clothing to functional fabrics for sports, furniture, engineering and architecture. It is a ’materials library’ organised into specific sections, including sustainability, a textile dictionary, finishing and dyeing, technical and functional fabrics, textiles for engineering and architecture, as well as noble fibres.
The support of Prato’s Textile District
The materials come from leading international companies in every sector, start-ups and research centres. The companies in Prato’s textile district play a leading role; the main contributors of the Textile Library are woollen mills, yarn manufacturers and companies occupied with raw materials, finishing and dyeing. In this way, the Museum intends to communicate the relationship that has always united it with the productive context of the territory, enhancing its innovative abilities and technical and stylistic know-how.
Particular attention is dedicated to the circular economy and sustainable innovation in textiles and fashion with yarns, fabrics, raw materials and accessories that explore the most crucial aspects of this important and controversial issue.
